This is a place for stories. The men and women featured here are ordinary people that we have met, who told us their stories, and allowed us to share them.

This project is about diversity. People have a wide range of reasons and experiences that cause them to emigrate to the United States. Some came as children, some as adults; some came to escape something, others in search of something. Eventually, even the word “immigrant” becomes rather futile as a descriptive term, because while stories may find similarities, no two experiences are the same.

Documenting Immigrants is run by Nikki Van De Car and Chandika Devi. Our intention is to understand, to empathize–but most importantly, to listen.
